Read the material in Appendix 1.

Referring to the lyrics by Tom Russell in Appendix 1, discuss the political conflict that has developed over the proposed building of a wall between the USA and Mexico.

Read the material in Appendix 2.

Using this material, discuss the historical development of the American dream and what position it has in the USA today.

According to the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, thirty per cent of children, or 4.1 million, were living in relative poverty in 2017-18 in the UK and 70% of children living in poverty were in working families. This means that in a typical classroom of 30 children, nine would come from a household in poverty.

Using the material in Appendix 3, discuss some of the reasons for child poverty in the UK.

The United Kingdom joined the European Economic Community, as the EU then was called, on 1 January 1973. However, this proved controversial at the time and a referendum on whether the UK should remain part of the Community was held in 1975 with a 67.23% vote in favour of continued membership. In 2016 there was a new referendum where 51.89% voted to leave the EU.

Referring to the quote in the box below, discuss whether the EU referendum in 2016 in the UK has created political problems rather than resolving them.
