In a Ted Talk the Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie lectured on the problem of only reading stories from your own cultural background (for example, Western, white culture). She was suggesting that multicultural literature and films can open minds and help us to walk in other people's shoes, and said: “Stories matter. Many stories matter. Stories have been used to dispossess and to malign, but stories can also be used to empower and to humanize. Stories can break the dignity of a people, but stories can also repair that broken dignity.” Discuss how an English-language multicultural story and/or film you have studied has helped you to “walk in other people's shoes” and what can be learned from this. Use examples from the story and/or film in your text
