Task 1B: Global conflicts and wars

Task 1B in your assignment asks you to comment on a statement by Alex Burton using an information graph about casualties in battle.

Political blogger Alex Burton argues that those who think the world is a better place today compared to the past are wrong. He then lists conflicts, civil wars, and refugee crises reports in the media as evidence that the world is not doing better.

The graph included in the task shows the correlation between battles and the resulting deaths between 1946 and 2014. The graph shows that the number of casualties in battle have dropped dramatically in the past 50 years. 

The fact that the graph contradicts Alex Burton’s view suggests that the blogger’s ideas regarding deaths in battle are not based on facts:
