The short story “Going Home” by Pete Hamill tells the story of Vingo, a man who was in prison for the past four years. Vingo is a passenger on a bus from New York to Florida, where he encounters a group of young people. His reserved attitude makes them imagine different scenarios about his life. 

A girl from the group approaches Vingo and tries to find out more about his life. At first, Vingo is reluctant to open up to her, but he accepts her invitation to join her group at a café. Back in the bus, the girl asks more questions about Vingo, who confesses that he is an ex-convict on his way home. When asked about his wife, Vingo tells the girl that he does not know whether he is still married. When he was in jail, he wrote to his wife, telling her that he understood if she did...
