In the following part, we will focus on Task 2A in the exam set. You are asked to use the text about Malala Yousafzai in Text 3 in the preparation material to compare and contrast her actions with those of another person who has protested against injustice, which could be a fictional character, a historical figure or somebody who has been in the news recently. However, the person must be from an English-speaking country.
Since we cannot decide for you on which person to choose, we will limit ourselves to discussing Malala’s actions and give you some general points to consider when dealing with the task.
Malala Yousafzai’s actions
Text 3 is portrait of Malala, a girl from Swat Valley in Pakistan who fought for her right to education against Taliban oppression: “However, one girl spoke out against the barbarism. Malala Yousafzai refused to be bullied and insisted on her right to an education”. (ll. 7-9)
