Spørsmålene finner du under:

TASK 1
Short answer
Answer either 1A or 1B.

1A
Your English teacher firmly believes reading factual texts is good for language learning and wants to have a reading project in your class. First she wants to know more about your reading needs and interests and asks for your ideas. She would like to know:
• what kind of factual text(s) you would like to read and why
• how you would like to work with such texts
• what you expect to get out of the reading project

Write a short text to your English teacher where you answer these questions.

1B
The text below is an extract from the science fiction novel Fahrenheit 4511. One of the characters, Guy Montag, works as a fireman. On his way home from work he meets his new neighbor Clarisse McClellan.

Read between the lines in this extract and write a short text where you answer the questions below:
• Clarisse says that Montag “answers right off” and “never stops to think”. Discuss why you think he does that.
• Today we take for granted that we can read whatever we choose. Why do you think a society might want to burn books and stop people from reading what they want?

TASK 2
Longer answer
The following tasks are based on your preparation topic “Using various sources independently, critically and responsibly”.
Answer one of the following: 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D or 2E.

2A

• an introduction
• a presentation of the uses you have for reading English
• a discussion of how useful reading English is in working life
• a discussion of what you ought to do to improve your English reading skills
• a conclusion

• comments on language, layout and illustrations
• a discussion of how clear the instructions are
• any suggestions for improvements you might have
• a conclusion

Give your text a suitable title.

2C
Appendices 2 and 3 present different views of reading at school. Write an article in which you discuss the views expressed in the texts and relate them to your own reading experiences at school.

Your article should include:
• an introduction
• a presentation of the views expressed in the texts
• a discussion of the views
• a reflection on your own reading experiences at school
• a conclusion

Give your article a suitable title.

2D
The author Phillip Pullman writes in Appendix 2 that books and novels are written “to be enjoyed and add to the joy of life or to help children get through a sticky patch”. Write a text in which you discuss this quotation. Give examples of at least two literary texts that
have had a similar effect on you.

Your text should include:
• an introduction
• a presentation of the Pullman quotation and your understanding of it
• a presentation of two literary texts and how they have affected you
• a discussion of how literature is used and could be used in schools
• a conclusion

• your understanding of the poem
• a presentation of the other text about personal relationships
