The short story “Brackley and the Bed” by Samuel Selvon begins with the main character, Brackley, walking through London one evening. Brackley is an immigrant from Tobago, who came to England in search of a better life. He is thinking about a letter he received from his aunt, saying that his cousin Teena wants to come to London. Brackley writes to the aunt to tell her Teena should not come, since one of the reasons why Brackley left Tobago was because he did not want to marry Teena. However, the aunt writes back to tell him Teena is already on her way.
