There are currently about 40 million immigrants living in the United States today, and 30% of them are from Mexico. Studies shows that immigrants from Mexico have an issue with integrating into the American society as many of them do not graduate from college, settle in “Mexican” neighborhoods, commit crimes and speak Spanish more than they speak English. This is considered a big problem today, so this essay will therefore discuss the reasons why these immigrants struggle with adapting to the American society.
One of the main reasons to this issue is poverty. Mexico is a country troubled by crime, bad economy, drugs and corruption, which makes most of the Mexican migrants cross the border in hope of a better life. This means that the population arriving the States often lack money and education, and therefore do not have a wide range of opportunities. In addition, many of these are illegal immigrants and do not have American rights. According to the American law, it is illegal for an employer to hire an undocumented immigrant, which forces them to settle with the first illegal, low-payed job they are offered. This lack of money and opportunities also makes them settle in the same parts of the country and in the same poor neighborhoods.
