Indigenous people are ethnic groups who maintain their characteristic culture, politics, and culture even though it is distinct in the dominant societies where they live. There are approximately 370 million indigenous people in the world. In this essay, I will focus on the Native Americans. The native Americans live throughout the US, and it was estimated that there were 1.77 million Native Americans by 2000. The largest Native American tribe was the Cherokee. What was the three major periods before the colonization? What was the consequences when the European settlers arrived?

The period before the colonization is divided into three major periods. The Paleo-Indian period refers to a time after the last ice age, approximately 12000 years ago. There is no clear evidence on how the Paleo-Indian people came to America, but researchers suggest that hunters migrated across the Bering Land Bridge between Siberia and Alaska. The Paleo-Indian period is often referred to the massive hunting on different large species of mammals. The first Indians were also nomadic, and hunted and protected themselves with stone tools.
