“Thank You M'am” is a short story written by Langston Hughes. The story takes places during the early 1900's. The plot of the short story, is about a woman that almost gets her purse stolen by a boy. She takes the unknown boy home with her, and in an unexpected way, she gives the boy a more or less educative experience. Hopefully.
James Langston Hughes was born February 1, 1902, in Joplin, Missouri. He was an afro-american writer, he is known for his poems and short-stories. His first book of poetry, The Weary Blues, was published in 1926. The short-story "Thank you M'am" was published in 1958. Hughes died from prostate cancer in May 22, 1967, in New York. In his memory, his home at 20 East 127th Street in Harlem, New York City, has been renamed "Langston Hughes Place."
The action takes place at night, as the woman walks down a street. She is a large woman. Suddenly boy comes running towards her and tries to snatch her purse. As the boy does not manage to take her purse, but instead falls on the ground, she takes the boy in a grip so he can not get away.
