Examples evoke empathy Social inequality constitutes a potential problem in any society. But raising awareness of problems of inequality is not an easy task. Because we are constantly bombarded with information about all sorts of problems, we somehow become immune. Studies show that people need concrete examples of unfair situations in order to feel empathy, which is the key to making changes in society. “We have to feel very strongly that other people are being treated unfairly before we can see that changes need to be made,” explains psychologist Eva Langdon.
