We start learning English in Norway from we are six years old. We are using English words and phrases in our daily life when we are talking Norwegian, and our SMS language are filled with English abbreviations.
How has English become so important in our daily life today?
English is a West Germanic language and originally spoken in England. English is spoken by almost half of the population in the world. It is today’s lingua franca, just as Latin was in the Middle Ages. It is official language in United Kingdom, USA, Canada, Australia, Ireland New Zealand, and is the second language in Pakistan, India, South Africa and Sri Lanka. But the majority of the English speakers today come from non-native English speaking countries.
